1. Type the following URL in the browser's address bar: http://creativecommons.org
2. Click on Find to go to the Creative Commons Search

3. Select an image search tab to open that website within the Creative Commons website. We recommend using Flickr.

4. Enter your search terms in the search box in the green bar. Do not use the search box on the Flickr site.

5. Set your creative commons options. Next to the search box in the green bar, uncheck the box next to “use for commercial purposes.”

6. Click Go in the green search bar. Your results will appear in the Flickr page, below the green bar.

7. To enlarge an image, click on the thumbnail to see the photo page. Note: Clicking on anything below the green bar will take you out of the Creative Commons search.

8. On the photo page, click the Actions button above the enlarged image. Select View all sizes.

9. Select from the available sizes by clicking on that size.

Note: Larger image sizes produce a better-quality digital story permit more detailed zooms. It is generally best to select images that are 600 x 800 pixels or larger, where the choice is available. Images smaller than 300 pixels in width may have a jagged appearance and become in .


10. After selecting the image in the desired size, click the download icon.

11. When prompted, save the image to your desktop.
Note: You may have to download the file first, and then move it to project folder.

12. Click the link to go Back to the Flickr photo page at the top of the page.

13. On the photo page and highlight and copy the URL in the address bar.

16. Locate your image file on your computer.

17. Right-click on the file and click on Properties (at the very bottom of the drop-down menu) to bring up the Properties dialog box for your image.

18. On the General tab, change the file name to something that will identify the image.

19. Click on the Details tab and mouse over the Comments line to bring up the Add comments box.

20. Click on the Add comments box to open the text box. Then right-click and click paste the information about the photo. Click OK to save.

Note: If no Comments box is available for your photo, add the link to the photo as Title, Copyright, Author, or Image ID information.



When attributing a photo, if you copied the URL, simply go back to the Properties of the photo, and just copy the URL.
